U.S. News & World Report Awards Jupiter Medical Center With Its Highest Distinction for Excellence in Lung Cancer Surgery

Jupiter Medical Center’s lung cancer surgery program at the hospital’s Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence received U.S. News & World Report’s highest honor in the national news organization’s annual 2021-22 Best Hospitals evaluation.

JUPITER, Fla. (January 4, 2022) – U.S. News & World Report, the respected 90-year-old news organization with over 40 million readers, just released its highly anticipated 2021-22 Best Hospitals list. Jupiter Medical Center was recognized as a “High Performing Hospital” for Lung Cancer Surgery, the publication’s highest honor in the category.

Comparison ratings of over 6,000 hospitals are evaluated and scored each year in an array of areas and receive the rank of High Performing, Average or Below Average in each category. For the Lung Cancer Surgery category, hospitals that offer surgical options for lung cancer score significantly better than the national average. The Quality Indicators evaluated for the High Performing Hospitals in Lung Cancer Surgery include: survival, prevention of prolonged hospitalizations, discharge of patients directly to home, number of patients, patient experience, worker influenza immunization, recognized cancer center, and ICU specialists

The Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence, an integral part of the Anderson Family Cancer Institute, brings together a team of specialists who provide a comprehensive approach to the evaluation and treatment of patients with cancers of the lung, esophagus, and chest. Led by Dr. K. Adam Lee, Medical Director of Thoracic Surgery and the Lung Center of Excellence at Jupiter Medical Center, the center’s multidisciplinary clinic allows patients to see multiple specialists in a single day at one location. Jupiter Medical Center’s expert team evaluates the patient, reviews diagnostic testing, and meets to discuss each patient’s case to determine the best course of action for treatment. In a single visit, treatment plans are developed that meet each patient’s unique needs.

“Our team is dedicated to presenting the most appropriate choice to each patient in order to achieve the best possible outcome,” Dr. Lee says. “Jupiter Medical Center’s Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence is unique in that it brings together the expertise of a multidisciplinary approach all under one roof.”

Dr. Lee pioneered minimally invasive robotic procedures for lung cancer, performing the first four-arm robotic lobectomy in the nation nearly two decades ago. He continues to stay on the cutting edge of robotic and minimally invasive technologies. Patients undergoing a less invasive form of surgery experience less pain and scarring and recovery time is reduced.

The oncology support team at Jupiter Medical Center’s Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence includes a social worker, licensed clinical dietitian, cancer rehabilitation specialists, clinical research team and a dedicated patient navigator. Patient navigators help patients and their family by providing information, knowledge, support and guidance for managing a diagnosis and treatment plan. The patient navigator coordinates with doctors and the treatment team throughout the process.
