Radiation Oncology

Our Radiation Oncology Department at Jupiter Medical Center’s Anderson Family Cancer Institute is the cornerstone of our cancer program. We pair state-of-the-art treatments and technologies with compassionate, personalized care to offer patients trusted radiation oncology treatments in Palm Beach County, the Treasure Coast, and the Greater South Florida area. The institute brings together multidisciplinary cancer experts and leading-edge technology rivaling that of any major academic medical center along with amenities uniquely designed for ensuring the highest levels of patient comfort and healing, all in one, integrated location.

Our board-certified radiation oncologists have expertise in treating all types of cancers and extensive experience in stereotactic radiosurgery. From diagnosis through treatment and survivorship, our entire team of physicians, specialty nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, navigators, psychosocial professionals, and nutritionists are on your side to provide the personal management and support you need. We take pride in our comprehensive radiation technologies that help us treat all types of cancers.

TrueBeam Radiotherapy System

TrueBeam technology targets tumors with a degree of power and precision unthinkable just a few years ago. Offering advanced precision that allows us to treat even the most challenging cancers as well as those of the lung, liver, abdomen, head and neck, brain, prostate, and breast. These sophisticated treatment techniques reduce most treatment sessions to only a few minutes a day. In the hands of our expert team of oncology professionals, we bring a level of care that rivals the most preeminent cancer centers in the country.

CyberKnife® M6™

The CyberKnife system is one of the most advanced robotic radiosurgery systems in the world. This system can treat moving tumors with pinpoint accuracy. Using sophisticated software and advanced imaging to track tumor movement, we are able to deliver an extremely accurate radiation treatment that spares surrounding healthy tissue and critical organs from damage. Unlike conventional radiation therapy, which can take weeks to complete, CyberKnife patients can undergo treatment in one to five days. This treatment is especially beneficial to patients with inoperable or surgically complex tumors as an alternative to surgery.

IntraOperative Radiation Therapy (IORT)

Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) is an innovative technology designed to drastically reduce the number of treatments needed for breast cancer patients. We combine surgery with an initial, concentrated dose of radiation. In the best of cases, this single dose of radiation will be all a patient needs. For others, this breakthrough will cut their required course of treatment in half.

Additional Radiation Technology & Therapies

In addition to the above treatments, our radiation oncologists utilize a variety of technologies and therapies which allows us to customize treatments to suit the unique needs of our patients. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Bionix® Prone Breast System: Designed to create a more comfortable experience during radiation treatment for breast cancer while minimizing irradiation to the chest wall—protecting both the lungs and cardiac tissue—our Radiation Oncology Center is proud to be one of only a few facilities in the area to offer this simple, yet innovative system.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT): Our facility utilizes IMRT, IGRT, and the Varian RapidArc system to provide treatments that allow for precise and quick targeting of cancerous tissues while helping to spare adjacent organs—and under optimal conditions, we can deliver the entire daily radiation treatment in as little as 90 seconds.
  • High Dose Rate Brachytherapy System (HDR): This computer-controlled radioactive source delivers pinpoint doses of radiation—minimizing exposure to healthy tissues. HDR technology is often used to treat many gynecologic cancers, such as cervical and endometrial cancers.
  • Superficial Electron Beam Therapy: Typically used for superficial skin cancer treatment, this electron beam therapy can be precisely tailored to your needs, so patients can avoid surgery.
